What is Supported Independent Living?

Supported Independent Living (SIL) is NDIS funding that helps participants live as independently as possible in their own home or a shared living arrangement. SIL covers the personal support you need for daily tasks while encouraging you to build skills and self-reliance over time.

What Does SIL Cover?

SIL funding supports assistance with everyday activities in your home, including:

  • Personal care such as showering, dressing, and grooming
  • Household tasks including cooking, cleaning, and laundry
  • Medication prompts and health-related support
  • Building skills for independent living
  • Overnight support where needed
  • Help with budgeting and household management

Who is Eligible for SIL?

SIL is available to NDIS participants who need support to live independently but cannot manage daily tasks without assistance. Eligibility is based on your individual needs, goals, and the evidence provided in your NDIS plan. Your support coordinator or local area coordinator can help you explore whether SIL is right for you.
